Failed to log into POP3 server

Tue May 12, 2020 10:13 am

I have a Windows Live Mail and a Yahoo Mail Plus account. When I installed MailWasher Pro 7.12.29 (trial) I let the program import the mail settings. I checked the settings - server type, POP3 & SMTP addresses, ports, etc - and they agreed with the settings I have in the e-mail clients. I receive e-mails if I go directly to the mail programs but when I use MailWasher Pro I get "Failed to log into POP3 server" for the Yahoo Mail address. I tried different server port numbers but I still get the same message. I deleted that account and added it back with the same result. Any thoughts? Thank you. (On a side note - I appreciate a company that lets you try their software before buying. If I had purchased the program first I would be much more annoyed.)

Hi there

If you use the eye icon next to your password in MailWasher, had it imported the correct password ? It's possible it might have imported a password from an older setup.

rusticdog - thank you for responding so quickly. I got all excited for a second. I tried your suggestion but my password (and all other settings) match what is on my e-mail settings. I will attack the problem more seriously next weekend when I have some time off.

OK sure thing.
Under Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> Advanced >> is Use OAUTH checked ? Try changing that and see if MailWasher then checks the account.
Using OAUTH means the first time MailWasher checks it will popup an extra window requiring you to give MailWasher access to the Yahoo account.

Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately they did not help. While checking the Forum topics for anything that sounded similar I found a posting from someone who suggested a setting I could change in Yahoo Mail Pro. I did that and MailWasher Pro has worked properly the two times I tried it since then. I have high hopes at this time. Thank you again for helping.

Yes, ensure you use SSL under the incoming tab>>Advanced, and your full email as the username.

If still issues, you are welcome to send me some logs as per below directions:

- Use MWPro to try to check mail.
- Click Help>>Send Support Logs.
- Write a note referring to this post (copy/paste the link from the address bar in your web browser)
- Click "Send Logs"

Then, reply to this to let me know the logs have been sent in case they do not arrive for any reason...

Log sent as well as your new account email - No need for the latter

Yes, I think I got the logs from you however there was no reference to this post so I did not realise it was related... below was my reply.....

Yes, both accounts show the same sort of error:

08-31-2025 10:24:00.690 Info LOGIN acc=Acct-1742132796 user=username host=pop-server.cfl.rr.com port=110 logintype=1 sslmode=0
08-31-2025 10:24:00.822 Info S: +OK InterMail POP3 server ready.
08-31-2025 10:24:00.822 Info MWP_POP3::Connect result=InterMail POP3 server ready.
08-31-2025 10:24:00.822 Info C: USER username
08-31-2025 10:24:00.874 Info S: +OK please send PASS command
08-31-2025 10:24:00.874 Info C: PASS *******
08-31-2025 10:24:05.939 Info S: -ERR invalid user name or password.

So it seems that your username or password is incorrect there, as please note that this error is coming from your ISP's mail server itself and not MW.....

Check your settings for this account under, Settings>>Accounts, click your email account then click the "Incoming" tab.

Ensure you have the correct Incoming server and username entered there, and re-type your password, (try also using the FULL email address as username) if no better, to check if your password is correct, try logging into your email providers webmail page to ensure you are using the correct logon details for your email account you have setup within MWpro.

Also, click Advanced on the incoming tab and enable SSL and see if that works better?

If no better, you may you have some extra security on that account like 2 step authentication or similar which is blocking MW's access, or that POP/IMAP is not enabled on this account or similar?
If all appears OK there, but MW still cannot connect, please try deleting the problem email account and re-importing it.

Please open Mailwasher Pro and click, Settings>>Accounts, click your account and click, "Remove Account", click, "Yes, remove it", close and restart Mailwasher Pro.
In Mailwasher Pro click, Settings>>Accounts "Import Account" and follow the directions.
If there are no amounts listed, cancel to exit this screen and click, Add Account, choose your account type and add account manually.
Full directions are available for this from here:
Mailwasher Pro >> Help >> Help Topics >> Settings Screen >> Accounts
And you can get settings from here for most ISP's email addresses:
