Today and yesterday, MW2010 has been stuck at the "Evaluating Message" stage. It hangs on the last message.
This means that I cannot "Wash Mail" without telling it to "Stop".
Is there any way that I can detect which message, if any, causes this behaviour?
Is there a "Time out"? Or will MW2010 keep trying until hell freezes over?

Re: Stuck at "Evaluating Message"
Do you get any errors in the Log tab (Triangle, next to the settings tab)? It will flash if there is a problem.
If the tab is not there you can display it: Help > Always Show Event Log
If the tab is not there you can display it: Help > Always Show Event Log

We've just posted 1.0.4, so go Help >> Check for Updates >> install that version and hopefully that has the right fixes in place for this.

Will retrieve manually.
Maybe it fixes that too.

Update worked fine here
Is your firewall letting the update process through?

If you view the update file direct, what's the top version listed ?

Re: Stuck at "Evaluating Message"
Yeah it will be otherwise it won't complete. This isn't the first time, I think we are seeing ISP caching maybe.....be frustrating if it was that.anniebrion wrote:Update worked fine here

In any case, if the firewall was obstructing the update check, then MW should not issue erroneous messages. It should complain that it cannot reach whatever it needs to reach to check the update.
Re: Stuck at "Evaluating Message"
A couple of points, everything else gets through when asked to check for updates, so I assume that it isn't picking on MW.anniebrion wrote:Update worked fine here

Re: Stuck at "Evaluating Message"
If I recall there was another similar instance and the firewall was in fact the problem. It had to do with specific ports being blocked. Check your firewall logs and settings.michaelkenward wrote:A couple of points, everything else gets through when asked to check for updates, so I assume that it isn't picking on MW.anniebrion wrote:Update worked fine here

Re: Stuck at "Evaluating Message"
The Updater I'm sure is just port 80, so standard ports shouldn't be blocked. A proxy might complicate things ?
The other thing under Settings >> General >> Updates >> this needs to be a folder that has write access, by default we set it as such using a common app data folder, but if for example on Vista you alter it to /Program Files/ then it might stall.
We don't have much logging options in the updater, as it's provided with our installer package, hopefully we'll have this figured out soon though.

I can see no Log Tab with triangle nor any menu entry in the Help section. Unless it is the one that enigmatically says "Log Protocol".

Re: Stuck at "Evaluating Message"
No you won't unfortunately. The Event Log we have in place is only for exceptions that the engine is handling. In this case it's just plain breaking.

You can select the “Always Show Event Log” option on the View Menu and it’ll (the triangle tab) be there full-time:

Great. That actually works, unlike the earlier suggestion. Many thanks.
Not sure if it will capture this issue. (See note from rusticdog.)
But it does give me something else to read.

Possibly not but then, I didn’t say it would “fix your problem”. I just said it’d show the Event Log.michaelkenward wrote:Great. That actually works, unlike the earlier suggestion. Many thanks.

Hi
I have exactly the same problem on around half the times I check mail. It is always stuck at the last one. This is on my two machines.
