Have just updated my own PC (running Win 7 with Windows Live Mail as email client) with new version of MW without any problem. Great to be able to use MW with Win Live Mail BTW.
Having also been given the second user licence I have installed that on my wife's laptop, running XP SP3 and Outlook Express 6. MW sees the OE account details and successfully imports these to its own settings but does not import her Contacts list to form the MW Friends list. Clicking on the Settings>Spam Tools>Friends List>Import has no effect.
All advice gratefully received. I've seen and read the post about a similar problem with Sea Monkey; am not at all sure how to/whether it is possible to import her address book as a text file to MW.

Re: MW10 not importing email addresses from Outlook Express
Hi Jeff
Try this. If from Outlook Express you go File >> Export >> select Text File and click Export >> give the file a name and save location (e.g I'll call it Blacklist.txt and save it to the Desktop) >> click Next >> remove all the checks from all the boxes except E-mail Address >> click Finish >> Close.
The open the file Blacklist.txt and replace the top line with.
So it should look something like this....
Now for the tricky part
I assume there was no MailWasher installed on the Laptop, so you need to create a folder pretending that the old MailWasher was installed. This file must be called Blacklist.txt and it should be stored in C:\Documents and Settings\<her username>\Application Data\MailWasherPro\
If you place the newly created Blacklist.txt file in there, the import should work. In theory.
Let me know if that doesn't work. And yes, the Friends List is stored in the Blacklist.txt file, but it's the Whiteslited heading that separates the good from the bad, so these will import into the good part of MailWasher.

Re: MW10 not importing email addresses from Outlook Express
Hi rusticdog.
Thanks for the very detailed procedure. Unfortunately, no luck! Text file created as suggested, renamed, stored as detailed, still no import!
You are right to surmise no previous install of MW; in fact her laptop did have MW Free at one time but I had to remove it because, for reasons I could never work out, possibly due to changes at our ISP, it suddenly would not download any email at all! Interestingly, on my PC, which has been running Win 7 and Win Live Mail since October of last year, I did not have my previous install of MW Pro still present since it would not run with Win Live Mail. But the import to Friends list for four separate email accounts worked for me without a hitch when the new version was installed!

OK, send me the file to [email protected] and I can check it out and see if it's something in the file that's the problem

Re: MW10 not importing email addresses from Outlook Express
Hi again.
Thanks for this, but I seem to have solved it myself!
Whilst creating the folder for the newly-created Blacklist.txt file I discovered her computer still had a folder MailWasherFree containing a file Blacklist.txt.backup. I simply renamed this file to Blacklist.txt and copied it to the MailWasherPro folder and the Friends and Blacklist both imported without problem!
Thanks again for your help. I would never have thought to look in those locations without the start you gave me!

Re: MW10 not importing email addresses from Outlook Express
My problem is similar but different.
My old machine crashed but I have the hard drive connected via USB.
The blacklist.txt file is at F:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\MailWasherPro\Blacklist.txt
Suggestions?

Make a fake MW version 6 data directory and stick the file there and see if 2010 will suck it in.
Change the Stan above to your user name in Windows and you'll be in the right spot.

Re: MW10 not importing email addresses from Outlook Express
Unfortunately, there is no Documents and Settings directly on the C: drive on my computer running Windows 7 Home Premium, and when I try to create one, it tells me there is already one at this destination, and I'm assuming it means in that Hierarchy.
I tried putting it in C:\Users\Owen\AppData\Roaming\Firetrust\Mailwasher\cache which is where the install put the various MW files, but it doesn't see it.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Did you attempt to copy the Blacklist.txt file to the indicated directory to see if it will copy?OwenMcKenzie wrote:Unfortunately, there is no Documents and Settings directly on the C: drive on my computer running Windows 7 Home Premium, and when I try to create one, it tells me there is already one at this destination, and I'm assuming it means in that Hierarchy.

I have no clue about windows 7, maybe just install v6 on it and see where it puts the files, exit it and copy your old stuff back into that location?
