@ millerp - "the dog ate my homework" now has a competitor - "MWP ate my emails"
Sorry to hear about your problem and appreciate you letting us know about it.
There is a free and fee based version of Mailwasher - the "PRO", I think, refers to the fee based version but from the screen shots that I saw, the only differences are cosmetic (removal of some update nags) and access to the First Alert system). I'm not intending to be nitpicky here - just trying to correctly identify the right program (fee or pro). You say that you are using MW 6.5.3. MWP (Mail Washer Pro) and based upon what you tell us, have successfully used MWP (??) with the email client (Incredimail) for some time.
Out of curiosity, do you also happen to use B9 (Benign)? This is really important to know - it's another brilliant Firetrust product.
And what is your operating system, AV (antivirus program) - and are these latter two THOROUGHLY up to date - all latest services packs, patches etc. Critical info to know.
IMPORTANT INFO please read (Geek Alert)
Incredimail is a non standard email client. Email clients are program that download emails from the internet via your ISP (internet service provider). There are many many different email clients - Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc. Few work in exactly the same way, although most will pull your email off your ISP's server. Some are 'better' than others (on technical grounds) and some are malware dressed in sheep's clothing. I took a look at Incredimail and was interested to read their install splurb (agree to this or go away). It cannot be printed otherwise it's well worth the post for all to see. Right at the beginning is an agreement by users that is really a worry: "By installing Incredimail, you agree to set Incredimail Mystart as your homepage and default search engine. You can easily change these settings at a later stage." Then it goes onto the real EULA (end user licence agreement) - which, like almost all of them, resolves to this: use at your own risk, if it works - great, if it doesn't well that a pity - but not our problem."
But wait this EULA has lots more - and it's well worth looking at. Incredimail is linked to Oberon Media Inc which among other things produce a lot of really nasty stuff dressed as 'games'. Their homepage is 'red flagged' by NIS (Norton Internet Security") as being unsafe and as much as I'm tempted won't actually go there to see how it might hurt my PC.
Now a lot of people might think it's harmless to allow a program to change your default browser search engine - but it's never safe unless it's something you do because you have no idea what might be installed and what other registry settings might be changed in the process. None of them are ever for the benefit of the user and most spread so many changes to your operating system registry that fixing it (if that at all possible) is like emptying a bucket of water with a sieve.
Few user know that LOTS of info is collected by such companies (like your browser habits), or what info is stored in cookies, and how and to whom your info is shared: targeted marketing might be too kind (spying / malware) might be more accurate.
Sure the program looks pretty - might even do some of the things it claims, quite well - but it comes at a cost that is not fully revealed to any user.
Problem Solving
Needless to say I did not install Incredimail nor could I recommend anyone do so. Use at your own risk. But it looks as if it is a PC based email client as opposed to a web based one (like Yahoo Mail). If so, then what exactly doy u mean by " I had all my e-mail deleted and ready to download into my Incredimail program."? (No disrepect - I speak 'Geek" and English) I interpreted this to mean that, for whatever reason, all your email was deleted (as in deliberately) which, means there was no email to give Incredimail (or any email client).
Have you logged onto your ISP (internet service provider) and actually checked your email (which is stored on their server)? Your email is stored on the internet in various servers - Hotmail, Yahoo, Google etc AND only emails addressed to your ISP's email account are stored on their server. I'm teasing out various significant components to close in on your problem. Try sending a test email to yourself - this will force it to go to your ISP email server and then actually go there and see if it exists. This is a basic problem solving step - removes lots of potential issues by simplification.
If it does not appear on your ISP mail server - then your problem is a bit more complicated, and I suggest you contact your ISP tech support.
Few programs have the time or resources (or ability / access) to automatically add your email user name / password based on an email client: there are just far too many. But they do accommodate the most commonly used ones: Outlook, Outlook Express etc. I have no idea if MWP could auto import username / password from Incredimail but doubt it. Based on your advice MWP worked at some point so somehow that info has been included (perhaps manually). Now, if you use B9 then unless it's running, even though you can 'see' emails in the MWP window, you won't be able to download them to your email client if you installed the program properly. B9 has been around for a long time and needs specific steps to get it to work with VISTA and WIN 7 - nothing overly complex (I've done it with both system in a few minutes). B9 strips out nasties from incoming emails - and this might not go well with Incredimail given it's link to Oberon.
Before leaping to a conclusion that MWP has a bug - I've identified a host of significant issues all of which are far more likely to be related to the presenting problem. Guilt by association is not proof - it's nothing at all. Better if we stuck to proven problem solving methods before jumping to unproven conclusions.
What Now:
I can't be sure if your system is clean of malware because you use Incredimail. Sorry about that - but better to know than not. You might have a bigger problem than disappearing emails - one which IMHO, is of far great significance.
Let us know about your operating system (OS) and AV (antivirus) because these help us better work the problem.
Send yourself a test email from within Incredimail (and you MUST send it to your real ISP email address). Then go to your ISP's email server and see if it exists. BTW - this lets you see if any other emails are sitting on the server too which is a good thing to know. Tell us how this goes.
Let us know if you are using B9 - and whether or not it was running when your problem occurred. If it was not running, then you would still be able to see emails via MWP, just would not be able to download them into your email client.
Confirm what you mean by : " I had all my e-mail deleted and ready to download into my Incredimail program." If you meant what it says then there was nothing to download - all deleted. But I doubt that's what you meant to say - just checking is all
HTH and do please get back to us.
