New Mail Washer Speed
I don't know about the rest of the MW users, but this new version is really slow. Actually significantly slower than the previous MW interface. Slow to mark messages as spam, very slow to do the "washer" routine etc. I am thinking about retrogressing to the older version if I can still load it. Not happy that this was an additional ten bucks
By the way, I am using version 2010 1.0.19

Re: New Mail Washer Speed
You're running version 1.0.19 ?
We're in the process of looking at speed issues clicking between emails, With regards to the Wash though, if you after you experience a slow Wash go Help >> Send Support Logs >> enter chris as the Ticket Number >> Send Logs. I'll take a look.
Cheers

Re: New Mail Washer Speed
It is not only the "wash" speed, it is also trying to mark stuff as trash as well, the response is extremely slow. One other thing that crosses my mind, when you mark something as spam it gets moved immediately and if you were marking a line of messages for spam a good message gets mistakenly marked as spam because it got re-arranged when the previous message was marked.

What's using all your RAM/Memory in Task Manager >> Processes >>...
When you opened MailWasher today you had 400MB RAM left, which is enough, presumably you have 2GB RAM installed...(logs don't tell me that)...
By the time you sent the logs you had 6MB left, so basically your machine is dumping it's guts trying to constantly free memory and utilise disk space for virtual memory....all of these will end up making it run like a pig.

Re: New Mail Washer Speed
In the logs you sent, the main email said you had 6MB RAM left, last time it was noted in the logs it was 400+MB....only 10 minutes difference....very odd.
Anyway, I can certainly see the slow downs in the clicking, this is something we need to add more logging around first to determine where it might be slowing up. The immediate solution would be to switch off the Preview Pane under the view menu, it's the loading of content for this that's taking so long. The clicking of Delete also selects the email, and again causes the same lag.

Re: New Mail Washer Speed
Thanks again for the quick replies. Forgive me as I am in and out of this office a lot during the day. This particular machine is only running 1 GB of ram. Secondly, I will not argue that I have background processes running on a continual basis. I do however have the task manager displayed as a rule all the time. I watch to see what is hogging the processor. In any event please allow me to add that nothing new is running here since the transition of MW software. All is the same from a systems level standpoint. There are 74 process running and only a couple of applications at any one time My system Idle process is the dominant process user as would be expected in a normal running mach. My static available ram is usually around .5 gb. This is not a race car machine but it serves the purpose. What else would you like me to do ? I can turn on and turn off things if you feel like experimenting.
Thanks,
Joe

Re: New Mail Washer Speed
I tried using the new MW 2010 on my older machine -- 512 MEG memory and XP -- and it was very slow to collect mail and wash mail. I also did not like the feature missing from the old version where you could just check 'delete all email' and mark all for quick deletion. It is very slow responding to each email that needs checking for deletion. I have reverted to the old version again until I buy a new machine with more memory etc. I also could not get the 2010 update to work.

You can manually download the version from the top of this forum.
If you are not ready for a system ug adding additional memory will give you a huge performance boost for a small investment. I'm running an old XP system but did the ug to 4 1GB sticks. XP can only address 3+ GB but it works reasonably well for an old system.

Re: New Mail Washer Speed
I'm coming close to the end of my trial now and dsepite giving it much longer than I wanted to I'm not staying with this new chunky version of Mailwasher. I'll need to uninstall it
I much prefer my old one, which I still use occasionally anyway when this new one crashes - like if I forget and double click the tray icon (why did you change that?).
This new one does run slower, and I don't see as many messages on the screen, AND the colours make the reading a more difficult process even though the font is bigger.
I'm glad I didn't rush to pay for this because it's a disappointment - which I am sorry to admit as I've sung the praises of the Firetrust spectacular for many years now!!

Re: New Mail Washer Speed
Part of the speed difference between the "old" and the "new" is clearly related to all of the additional checking that MWP 2010 is doing to stay ahead of the ever changing efforts of the Spammers.
The new version is conceptually similar to a Swiss Army knife for Spam and the old version is like a two bladed pocket knife.

Re: New Mail Washer Speed
I have all the problems others do - with speed. Very slow. But I have other problems too.
After I start up MW and it gets my mail once, I minimize it to the tray. When I go to re-open it, everything is unreadable, not just the "good" mail that was left, but the menu's, drop down menus, icon names. So I have to re-initialize it every time I use it.
Also, even though certain mail is marked as blacklisted, it is not marked for deletion. So I have to check a lot of blacklisted items for deletion manually.
Additionally, even though my settings and lists were supposed to be imported, some "friends" are now blacklisted and blacklisted emails are friends
Add the slowness on top of this and it's a real time-suck. This is enough to send me back to the old version.
However, in the old version, somehow, in the recycle bin, all the buttons disappeared. So I have a list of what was deleted but no way to re-send them.
Maybe I can get those buttons back if I re-install the old version.
Do I get my 10 bucks back if I do?
Thanks,
Donna
