MW 2010 Notification not happening
I have installed MW 2010 with Thunderbird on Win 7 32 bit. I am not getting a tray notification balloon when mail is received. It was working OK with the previous version of MW. Everything else seems to be working fine. Thanks

Two things, check your Settings, General, Notifications and make sure they are set to your preferences. Also if you have MWP in focus it does not notify.

Sidewinder beat me to it
, but here are some screenshots to help you.
Be sure to click the "save" button in each window when you make changes.
And be sure Tbird is NOT configured to automatically check for new mail.

Re: MW 2010 Notification not happening
Good morning/afternoon in NZ, (No DLS here in WA)
I have my settings are exactly the same as your screen shots except for the "New Mail Notification" icon, which I have now changed. The only visual indication I get of new mail is a tiny little envelope appears on the MWP icon bottom right of my Task Bar. Perhaps that is all I should expect? In the previous version the MW icon flashed.
Cheers, Mac
PS: I should have mentioned that by brother in law is seriously hearing impaired hence the reason I am trying to get the best visual result for him and others like him.

Re: MW 2010 Notification not happening
Hi, Jarrahbark:
Depending on what options you choose in the settings, yes, the system tray icon should blink when new mail arrives.
If you select the option to display the balloon, as well, then it should also display visually. It doesn't stay visible indefinitely, though -- at least I think it will eventually fade.
But we will need for one of the experts to elaborate on that.
Also, be sure to take note of sidewinder's reply: when MWP is open/"in focus", it will not notify. IOW, if MWP is open, you won't get the notifications. I think it only works if MWP is minimized.
This is getting a bit over my head, technically speaking.
So, we'd best wait for someone more expert to provide more specific advice.
If all else fails, they may ask you to send some log files to Chris (RusticDog) to see what's happening on your system.
To do this, open the GUI, click "help" in the upper right corner, select "send support logs" from the menu & follow the instructions. Provide a brief explanation in the appropriate field, include a link back to this thread, and use "CHRIS" for the ticket number.
It only takes a few seconds and will help them diagnose any problems.
Regards,
daledoc1
PS FYI The program icon looks different in MWP2010 -- it's a yellowish bar of soap, not the gray drain plug from the older version. (Screen shot attached -- arrow added for emphasis.)

Re: MW 2010 Notification not happening
I have to keep a second application open on my Windows box just to make sure I have something handy to put over the top of the MW window so I get the notifications.
MW used to give notifications all the time but back in the early v5 time-frame it got changed to only tell you about new mail if it wasn't the active program.
Really sucks for folks not staring at their computer all day as if you forget to bury the MW window you won't hear any sounds. Real pain to have to jiggle the mouse, wait for the monitor to power up and screen saver to clear out just to see if you have mail. Adding an option so you could get notified all the time or just when MW was buried would be a real help for me. Heck, even detecting that the screen saver was running or the monitor was in power-save mode would help out, what does it matter if MW is the top window if you can't see it? Where is the "banging head on keyboard" icon when you need it?
I'm guessing that will never get fixed at this point since it has garnered very few votes: http://www.firetrust.com/en/products/ma ... -is-active

Re: MW 2010 Notification not happening
Thank you Dale I think my MW is in fact working as it should be then. The balloon does appear but quickly fades and the tray icon changes to an "envelope". I tend to agree with you Stan that I would really like to see a "popup" that appears and stays until MW is opened. Perhaps in the next version.
Other than that, MW is in the top ten of the most important apps on my computer. I am very, very glad to have it on board.
Cheers, Mac

Re: MW 2010 Notification not happening
I'll see if we can add a small option to persist the balloon until it's clicked. As per the screenshot posted by Daledoc1 too, you can select to use the larger envelope for the system tray, this tends to be more noticeable than the default notification icon we use.JarrahBark wrote:Thank you Dale I think my MW is in fact working as it should be then. Thank you, that would be a very useful option, especially in places or with people where sound alerts are not an option.rusticdog wrote: I'll see if we can add a small option to persist the balloon until it's clicked.
